The museum
The museum located on its ground is a non-profit organisation which provides visitors insights about the history of the cemetery as well as Ireland’s history and genealogy services. The permanent exhibitions include “City of the Dead”, “Prospect Gallery” and “Milestone Gallery”. Visiting the museum allows you to discover stories about gravediggers and grave robbers, plus, it gives information on its amazing array of historical graves and funeral monuments. One of the best things to explore is the exhibition design technology, an open door to 200 life stories covering almost 200 years.
Genealogy
At Glasnevin Museum, you can also go search for your ancestors with their unique burial and cremation record from present day to the very first burial in 1828. When visiting the museum, you are entitled to 5 euros genealogy voucher which can be used on their online genealogy tool.
The parkland
The main feature of Glasnevin Cemetery is its wonderful parkland dotted with historical graves. A dramatic setting when the sun goes down that is not to be missed while in Dublin. Even with kids, it is a nice activity to do. On top of that, the botanic garden is a neighbour to the cemetery, allowing for a long and peaceful stroll.

How to reach there
If you are staying in the city centre the cemetery is located 3km away, on the Finglas Road in Dublin 11. When staying at the Mont Clare hotel the Bus Route 4 passing in front of the hotel will take you straight to the cemetery. From O’Connell Street, you can take the Bus Route 140 and 40.
Parking options
If travelling by car, there are on-site parking facilities at the Glasnevin Cemetery Car park for €2 per hour, and the St Paul’s Car park adjacent to Glasnevin Cemetery for €2 per day. Finally, the museum is open Monday to Sunday including bank Holiday from 10am to 5pm.
